Dodgers GM Reveals Tanner Scott Return Timeline After Medical Procedure

The Los Angeles Dodgers will be without left-handed pitcher Tanner Scott for the National League Championship Series after he underwent an abscess incision this week in his lower body.

Since Scott was removed from the team’s NL Division Series roster, he’s ineligible to be on the NLCS roster. He would, however, be eligible to be on the World Series roster if LA were to make it that far.

Manager Dave Roberts didn’t close the door on Scott potentially being on the World Series roster when speaking about his injury on Thursday.

“I still feel that the World Series — if we’re fortunate enough to get there, earn our way there — then he’ll be available,” Roberts said ahead of NLDS Game 4.

General manager Brandon Gomes provided a slightly more in-depth timeline for Scott’s return, which lines up with Roberts’ thinking.

“Sounds like anything from seven days to two weeks,” Gomes said to reporters on Thursday.

With Game 1 of the World Series not set to take place until Oct. 24, Scott has two weeks to heal, setting him up to return according to Gomes’ timeline.

As for how the medical issue came about, Roberts said the team started noticing the problem during Tuesday evening’s workout. Gomes had a little more information than the skipper.

“It sounded like it was uncomfortable,” Gomes said. “Then we thought he was on the other side of it. And then it got worse to the point of having to have the procedure.”

Scott had a trying first season with the Dodgers after signing a four-year, $72 million deal this offseason. He made 61 appearances, sporting a 4.74 ERA with a league-high 10 blown saves. He didn’t make an appearance in either the Wild Card series against the Cincinnati Reds or NLDS against the Philadelphia Phillies before being removed from the roster.

  1. As a human being I hope he heals up quickly and completely.

But as a Dodgers fan I hope it isn’t even on the roster if they do in fact make it to the WS. He had a really bad season. Give him a chance next year, hopefully he just had a bad year, it happens, but I’d trust Kike` or Rojas more than Scott in the WS.

    1. I think it’d be best to leave him off as well. It wouldn’t be great to rush him back just for him to land back on the IL for an extended period. Hope return to All-Star form upon his return!

    2. Tanner Scott definitely struggled throughout 2025, and perhaps maybe a clean slate next season would be best. However, Roki Sasaki is also proof of coming back stronger after injury and performance issues. Maybe Scott could do something similar if the Dodgers reach the World Series.

  2. I hope Scott is doing well in his recovery. But, I don’t want to see him again until Spring 2026. Go home, rest and figure out what went wrong this year.

    1. I think that is so smart. Take a break and get an extra few weeks of your offseason recovering and fine-tuning whatever he needs, and get back to that guy the Dodgers signed for $72 million!

  3. Scott is an Elite Pitcher. World Series is what every player Yearns for. Timeline for a return this year would be a Great Option to have given the bullpen problems of late. Besides he’ll have Plenty of time to fully heal after. 162 games, preseason and all that traveling and to not be available if needed would be a Mistake for Dodgers head office. You Never know if as a Player you will make it back to a World Series. Scott will Suck it up as Freeman did last October and played so well he was MVP. Also, Dodgers haven’t shown their Strength at the Plate. I suggest Shohei could be 3-4th bat in NLCS and see if that helps his Contribution. Shohei ain’t looking like the Marvel he is. A Change just might Erupt a Sleeping Giant…Go Dodgers!

  4. Why the Hell would they want him back EVER, let alone in the postseason?? Are they going for a record 11 BLOWN SAVES? Horrible to see the starters. Work hard only to have him or Kirby Yates come in and give it all away

    1. The Dodgers signed Tanner Scott to a four-year, $72 million deal last winter. It makes sense why LA would want him to contribute in the postseason, but thus far, the signing has definitely been a disappointment.

    2. I don’t think he should be back in the postseason, but he could definitely make a comeback next year and I wouldn’t be surprised. While he clearly struggled this year, the Dodgers have already turned around Roki, and it only took a little bit of rehab! I wouldn’t be surprised if he’s back in All-Star form sometime next season.

    3. 72 million reasons he’ll return. Give him a break I bet you were one to say demote Pages, and Mookies washed up.

  5. I Hope Tanner Scott recuperates EASILY, and has a GOOD Winter. He needs to reset in order to RE-CLAIM the Pitching ABILITIES that landed him such a HUGE Contract!! But, right now, he should not be on the Roster for the WS, providing the Dodgers get there. The Dodgers have the Personnel to help Scott RECTIFY whatever is causing his Problems. They did it with Roki, and here’s HOPING that—they can do it again with him. But right now, the meager Offensive Performances of Ohtani and Pages, will have to improve,— if they are going to Win the next Series, OR another WS.

    1. I definitely think the Dodgers will consider letting Scott take the rest of the season off, but then again, people doubted Roki Sasaki until he came back and proved he was a lights out pitcher. That could very well be the case for Scott, whether that be in the World Series or the 2026 season.

    2. I agree, he needs all the time he can get to rest. The bullpen has looked great since the beginning of the postseason, especially with the help of the starters, so there’s no reason to rush him back. As for the offense, I’m sure they’ll get moving soon! It just takes one hit.

    3. Agree 100%. We have won so far with Scott and Kirby, both of which were pitching badly, on the IL. Treinen has obviously not regained his form and has generally been missing the strike zone or, when not, seemingly pitching batting practice. At this point he should only be used if we are WAY AHEAD or WAY BEHIND. Maybe he and the others straighten things out in the off season, but now is not the time to send any of them in for important or close games

As for Pages and Ohtani, both seem overeager and swinging at bad pitches , putting them in a hole. Need some more discipline or maybe they need Muncy’s glasses

  6. At least we have Treinen, he is so blessed, and really holy. Robert says ” we will look for every opportunity to get ?Blake in games”, because, apparently he is a great guy the cares and tries so hard to be righteous.

    1. I feel like if Treinen ended up being the reason the Dodgers lost Game 2 (and boy, did he get close), maybe Doc doesn’t say that, but I love his connection with the players. That being said, Treinen gave more than enough reason to NOT be in the game, and we are super lucky to have gotten out of that.

  7. Scott needs to call it good for 2025. Reset for next year. Get healthy, work on his mechanics and approach.

    1. Agreed. It works out for both parties if he starts his offseason recovering and picks up the ball again when he is fully healthy and ready to turn the page
