Dodgers Highlights: Miller Time Shines in LA, Freeman, JD Power Offense to Win
The difference sleeping in your own bed for a night can make. Despite a feverish comeback effort in Tampa Bay on Sunday, the Dodgers looked beat down and worn out wrapping up a 10 game road trip. Players got to sleep in their own homes and looked recharged in the 6-1 win over the visiting Nationals.
It took a few innings for the bats to get going but Bobby Miller bought them all the time they needed in another dominant performance.
Let’s get into the highlights of this one.
Washington got on the board first with a run in the 2nd inning. It would have been more if not for this hose job from Jason Heyward from right field.

Nats’ starter Trevor Williams was great over the first four innings of the game. He help the Dodgers to 3 base runners up until the 5th inning when the LA bats finally woke up. The inning opened with Jason Heyward working a 7 pitch walk. Washington blew what could have been a potential double play chance and turned it into Dodgers on the corners with no outs. James Outman drove in Heyward on a sacrifice fly to tie it at 1-1. Chris Taylor grounded into a force play for the second out then things got fun.
Mookie Betts singled. Freddie Freeman doubled in Taylor and Betts and Will Smith followed with a walk. Then J.D. Martinez did this.

This is why I was doing cartwheels when the Dodgers signed J.D. Martinez. Consistent slug in the middle of the lineup. Perfect stopgap for the Dodgers at DH before Ohtani next year. J.D.’s .987 postseason OPS is going to make a big difference in October.

The 6 runs would be all the Dodgers would need as Miller and three other relievers shut down the Nationals.
Bobby Miller was lights out in his first regular season start at Dodger Stadium. The rookie completed 6 innings and walked off to a standing ovation from the home crowd. He allowed 4 hits and just one run while striking out 4.

Bobby Miller gets a congratulatory hug from Clayton Kershaw, who was away from the team on bereavement leave during Miller’s first MLB start. He’s got the seal of approval now from The King – the sky is the limit. #Dodgers

After Miller, Victor Gonzalez, Justin Bruihl, and Shelby Miller combined to keep the Nats off the board over the final three innings to secure the 6-1 victory, LA’s 33rd win of the season.
