Dodgers Highlights: Urias Filthy vs Padres, JD Martinez Provides the Pop in Win

The Dodgers picked up their 4th win in 5 tries against the Padres on the back of a 7 inning gem thrown by Julio Urias. J.D. Martinez hit his first home run since coming off the injured list, a 3-run shot off San Diego right-hander Joe Musgrove. LA picks up win number 25 and is just a half game behind the Atlanta Braves for the best record in the National League.

Let’s get into the highlights.

The Padres drew first blood with a Juan Soto screaming line drive home run in the first.

J.D. Martinez decided in the bottom of the first that 3 runs is more than one and dropped a 3-run homer that was caught on umpire cam.

The Padres answered back with one in the top of the second, a Ha-Seong Kim bomb on a hanging changeup that he hit a mile.

Will Smith got that run back in the bottom of the 4th with a punch single to right to drive in Freddie Freeman who led off the inning with a double.

The game stayed that way thanks to some great work by Julio Urias who battled around some less than stellar defense to put up 7 great innings. He helped himself on defense with this incredible play that was followed by a guttural scream. (The Dodgers cut that from the highlights below because they’re soft.)

Evan Phillips, Brusdar Graterol, and Caleb Ferguson combined to pick up the final 6 outs of the game.

Things got a bit interesting in the 9th inning when Xander Bogaerts beat out an infield single that was actually overturned from a game ending out. Nelson Cruz followed with a single to put runners at first and second with two out. Dave Roberts turned to Caleb Ferguson to get the final out and secure the 25th win of the season and 12th win in 14 games.
