Dodgers Injury Update: Tommy Kahnle Eyeing Minor League Rehab Assignment

Back in 2020, the Dodgers took a chance on Tommy Kahnle by signing him to two-year deal that is was $4.75 million guaranteed. However, it hasn’t really worked out for the Dodgers.

This whole season, the right-handed pitcher has struggled with a few injuries and trips to the injured list. He was finally activated in May, appeared in a few games, then returned right back to the 60-day-IL with elbow inflammation.

Prior to his return to the IL, he struggled through four innings this season with the Dodgers. The 33-year-old dealt 5 strikeouts but also allowed 3 hits, 3 earned runs, 2 homers, and posted an ERA of 6.75.

Kahnle has slowly but surely made progress towards a hopeful return by the end of the season.

On Saturday while the Dodgers were shutting down Miami, Kahnle pitched in a sim game in Arizona where he topped out at 97 MPH. Roberts said he’s close to a rehab assignment, but the potential for him to return for some late season action remains unknown.

Robert’s injury update prior to Saturday night’s game was as follows:

As long as Kahnle stays pain free and continues to progress, the next step in rehab may be sooner than later and the Dodgers may be able to see at least one or two appearances from the righty this season.
