Dodgers Interested in Willy Adames, But Haven’t Offered Him a Contract Yet: Report

Milwaukee Brewers shortstop Willy Adames joined the team in 2021 and has since emerged as one of baseball’s top offensive players at his position.

However, the offseason could mark a new chapter of his career as a free agent.

The Los Angeles Dodgers and New York Mets have both reportedly been linked to the shortstop.

According to Jeff Passan of ESPN, the Dodgers “will be in the mix”. However, they haven’t yet offered him a contract, refuting a previous report.

“Willy Adames, shortstop: The 29-year-old is coming off a 32-homer season with the Milwaukee Brewers and has hit the second-most home runs in the past six seasons among shortstops, behind only (Francisco Lindor),” Passan said. “Though he makes all kinds of sense for the San Francisco Giants, Adames’ willingness to play third base ties him to the Mets and (New York Yankees), too. The (Los Angeles Dodgers) will be in the mix as well. Adames should cash in, though any reports of contracts already offered are incorrect.”

It’s almost certain that Adames is done in Milwaukee. Brewers manager Pat Murphy doesn’t expect him to return because of his asking price.

“You see the numbers he’s probably looking (for), and I don’t think we’re going to come up with that right now,” Murphy said, according to Andrew Wagner of Forbes.

“That’s not prudent for our group.”

Adames expressed interest in re-signing with the Brewers after the Wild Card Series, but on Sunday, Murphy mentioned he’s already exploring other options. One possibility includes shifting Platinum Glove winner Brice Turang from second base to shortstop.

Adames did receive a qualifying offer from the Brewers which means they’ll receive draft-pick compensation if he signs with another team in free agency.

  1. Adames obviously would be an upgrade to the infield. He had a low WAR fielding number last year; but that is probably an outlier. He would be a great signing, in my opinion. Solid hitter through his career. The upside with Willy is that he would have Mookie on one side and Max on the other. Both are solid fielders with Mookie possibly looking at competing for a Gold Glove if he stays at second all year. With Freddie, it would be a solid, solid infield, both hitting and fielding. We do need to resign Teo, though. He would have to play both right and left. I think this would be a great opportunity to get Dalton Rushing into the mix and forget Soto. Rushing plays left against righties; Teo against lefties. We have to find out about Rushing. Pages moves around the outfield. Edman plays primarily center. Taylor remains the utility guy; and Rojas covers 2nd, SS, and 3rd utility. Anyway!!! Let’s sign Adames; resign Teo; and forget Soto.

  2. I would trade Max, play Adames at 3rd, Miggy at short, Mookie at 2nd, and you’d have an all-star infield, with Edman and Kike (assuming he re-signs) as backup at all three positions.
