It remains unclear why Outman is with the big league team, but his arrival could be an indication the Dodgers are set to make a roster move.
In mid-May, Outman was optioned by the Dodgers when Teoscar Hernandez was activated off the injured list. The 28-year-old was hitting .125 with two home runs, four runs batted in and an OPS of .597 across nine Major League games.
With Triple-A Oklahoma City this season, Outman is hitting .271 with 12 home runs, 42 RBIs and a .904 OPS across 181 at-bats.
Outman was reportedly a potential trade piece for the Dodgers in their discussions with the Chicago White Sox earlier this season. While the Dodgers tabled trade discussions with the White Sox for outfielder Luis Robert Jr., the reported return package included Outman and a top Dodgers prospect.
This spring, Outman and Andy Pages were competing for a chance to emerge as the Dodgers’ everyday center fielder. However, Pages eventually earned the spot and Outman was optioned to Triple-A after the Tokyo Series.
For what it’s worth, Tommy Edman is in the Dodgers’ lineup on Thursday after missing the last two games due to an ankle injury.

While Ryan Ward is hitting .320 with 15 home runs and Outman is been promoted. Why has Roberts and Friedman not brought up Ryan Ward plus you have a crappy hitter with the name of Conforto always playing due to Roberts pet player and he has a solid .167 batting average and only 10 RBI’s. The sane thing will happen with Ryan Ward that happened to Busch. The Dodgers never gave Busch a fair chance but now he is hitting .276 with first place Chicago. I can’t figure why too management lets Ryan Ward rot in AAA. He will go to a new club and do very well.
