Dodgers: James Outman Not Sure About Changing That Number 77

Dodgers outfield prospect James Outman made his major league debut with LA last season and made a big splash with the club in a short amount of time. When he came up, he was assigned uniform number 77 and now it seems he might have grown pretty attached to that number going forward.

In a recent interview on AM570 radio, the 25-year-old shared that superstition may, in fact, keep that number on his back.

“I haven’t put much thought into it yet. You know, the superstitious part of me thinks that 77 is a good number now but we’ll see. I’ll let the moment speak to me.”

If it isn’t broken, why fix it? Outman hit .462 with the big league club last season, albeit in just 4 games. And across 125 games at the minor league level he hit 31 home runs with 106 runs batted in and a .978 OPS.

He opened the year wearing 97 at spring training in 2022, so numbers don’t have a lot of meaning in the long run. But, he feels confident in number 77, then 77 it will be.
