Dodgers: Jimmy Nelson to Start the Year in the Bullpen

The Dodgers are going to continue to keep their Opening Day rotation a secret. Dave Roberts has been asked about his starting pitchers all Spring Training without a desire to show his hand too early. But just a few days away from the season kicking off, he’s still not ready.

Roberts said that they will wait a little longer to decide how the starting rotation shakes out. He did reveal that the final spot in the rotation will be up for grabs between Dustin May, Tony Gonsolin, and David Price. The Dodgers have not yet decided to send DP into relief.

Roberts also revealed that Jimmy Nelson will not be in the Dodgers’ starting rotation. That does not mean he will not get opportunities to start though.Doc has talked often about how the team will utilize guys this year, and he expects all 7 guys in competition for a rotation spot to get starts at some point.

There were some thoughts that the Dodgers might go with Nelson in the rotation to start the year. Nelson has put together a very nice Spring, not being charged with a run in his 4 appearances. Nelson has struck out 9 batters and issued just 1 walk so far.

The good news is that no matter who they throw out there in the 5th spot, they cannot go wrong. The Dodgers have so many good starting pitchers ready to go that any guy they decide to slot in will be a great choice.
