Dodgers: Justin Turner Talks About Impressive Defense in Win

The Dodgers defeated the St. Louis Cardinals 3-1 at Dodger Stadium on Tuesday night, and will look for the series sweep on Wednesday’s YouTube exclusive game.

Dodger veterans Justin Turner and Clayton Kershaw delivered tonight. Turner had 2 hits, 1 double, and 1 RBI. Kershaw earned his 11th win of the season. His stat line tonight: 7 IP, 4 H, 1 ER, 1 BB, 9 K.

Justin Turner spoke with SportsNet LA anchor Alanna Rizzo on his performance and Clayton Kershaw:

We were able to scratch a couple across, and that was all Kersh needed, he did the rest, he was outstanding again tonight… just unbelievable, getting guys on, getting in trouble, and finding ways to get out of it, all year long, and that’s what makes him so good.
Justin Turner on the Dodgers big defensive game:
Unbelievable job, Joc hasn’t played a lot of right field, and to go out there, make a game-saving catch like that, over his shoulder, was unbelievable. Belli had a couple of plays; the pop up, running back, catching the ball with his shoulder.
And earlier in the game, the weird push bunt attempt that went over his head, having the awareness to get to it, get the force out at second, I think was huge for us.
Justin Turner on the difference of this Dodgers club compared to the one in April:
Obviously we are playing really good baseball, we are clicking on all cylinders right now, and we like our chances tomorrow.
All cylinders indeed; after ugly, back-to-back losses at the end of July, the Dodgers have gone 7-1 and outscored their opponents 42-24. As the team’s focus shifted back to a better defensive alignment, the on-field product has began to look playoff ready.
And that defense will be led by it’s captain, RedTurn2.

  1. yeah — great defense because they finally (!) put Beli on 1B, where he is gold glove caliber, and returned Joc to the OF, where he is a very good fielder (not 1B!!). their D difficulties have been due to too many “experiments” moving players into positions they have no business being put in, plus the ill-advised shifts.
