Dodgers: LA Starting Staff Accomplishes Feat for First Time in 40 years

The Dodgers starting lineup is dangerous as any baseball fan has noticed. Every team LA faces has to navigate one of the deepest batting orders in the majors that features a trio of MVP caliber players at the top. The Dodgers batting order has been fantastic this season, but so too, has the pitching staff.

After Friday night’s outing where Gonsolin flirted with perfection once again, LA was able to do something that hasn’t been accomplished in the last 40 years of Major League Baseball.

Also, according to Teamrankings.com, the Dodgers have held the lowest ERA in MLB since July 16th. During that team, the team has gone 19-3 overall.

Besides Mitch White who was just recently traded to the Blue Jays, the three All-Stars combined put together an average ERA of 2.52. That’s not even counting All-Star snub Julio Urías’ impressive 2.49 ERA.

Tyler Anderson whose ERA stands at 2.72, good for the 12th best ERA in the league. In 19 starts, he’s collected 13 wins, one loss, and has allowed just 10 homers, 24 walks. He’s logged 97 strikeouts across 122 innings pitched this season.

Tony Gonsolin, who only made his major league debut in 2019, has been an ace all season for the Dodgers. He’s held a consistent top 5 spot all season with an ERA of 2.24 and 14-1 record. Across his 116 innings, he’s only given up 71 hits, dealt 105 strikeouts and and has only allowed 32 walks.

Clayton Kershaw, the long time Dodger veteran and three-time Cy Young winner, has held it down for LA in his 85 innings pitched this season. Kershaw holds a 7-3 overall record in before his recent injury and has only allowed 69 hits, 29 runs and has dealt 88 K’s.

Despite an injury forcing him to leave the game last Thursday, the nine-time All-Star is expected to make a comeback before the post-season run.

The batting order deserves their share of credit, but  as LA continues to rack up impressive accolades over the season and constantly rewrite the history books, they owe much of their success to the pitching staff.
