Right-handed pitcher Yoshinobu Yamamoto, the ace of the Dodgers all year long, is taking the mound for LA. He went 12-8 with a 2.49 ERA and 201 strikeouts across 173.2 innings in the regular season. He then pitched against the Cincinnati Reds in Game 2 of the Wild Card — also a closeout game for LA — allowing zero earned runs (but two unearned runs) with nine strikeouts across 6.2 innings pitched.
Opposite Yamamoto will be right-hander Aaron Nola, a surprise selection after he had a dismal 2025 season. Nola, the former ace of the Phillies, made just 17 starts this year, sporting a 6.01 ERA across 94.1 innings.
For what it’s worth, Nola dominated in his last start of the season, pitching eight innings and allowing just one run with nine strikeouts against the Minnesota Twins. His ERA was at 6.46 before that start.
The plan for the Phillies is to have Nola start the game, with left-hander Ranger Suarez following him at some point. With the right-hander starting the game, though, the Dodgers made a few lineup changes, starting with Max Muncy getting his first start of the series at third base.

Philly’s Catcher in my opinion is most responsible for throwing error to home than the pitcher. I was an outfielder in high school with a 300 average. A Coach suggested I switch to Catcher because of my height 6’2” and a good arm in order to get a Scouts recognition. As a Catcher you’re responsible to Direct throws and if a pitcher is fielding especially as the situation for Philly clearly showed in replay, throwing to first base was the best scenario and a Natural throw which is Practiced. A pitcher throwing home isn’t. But even if pitcher threw straight and to Catcher Runner Probably beats it. Weird Conclusion to a Close game. Go Dodgers!
