Dodgers Lineup vs Padres: Shohei Ohtani Set to Be Starting Pitcher and Designated Hitter

The Los Angeles Dodgers begin a four-game set with the San Diego Padres Monday, but the series opener will be headlined by Shohei Ohtani.

Ohtani is set to return to the pitcher’s mound for the first time since August 2023, when he was a member of the Los Angeles Angels.

The Dodgers lineup will face right-handed pitcher Dylan Cease, who is 2-5 with a 4.28 ERA and 96 strikeouts. Cease tossed seven scoreless innings last time he faced the Dodgers on June 10.

How Many Innings Will Shohei Ohtani Pitch?

Manager Dave Roberts said Ohtani is going to serve as an opener and likely pitch just one inning.

“Shohei is getting antsy,” Roberts said Sunday. “He’s ready to pitch in a big-league game. My guess an inning to start.”

  1. Once again Conforto in lineup instead of Kim who is has a batting average like 200 points higher, steals bases, and plays elite defense. Roberts has got to go. I’ve been saying this since he started as manager and I’ve followed Dodgers since 1972.
