Right-handed pitcher Shohei Ohtani (3.47 ERA, 23.1 IP)is taking the mound for LA on Wednesday, coming off his worst pitching performance of the season in which he allowed four earned runs over 4.1 innings of work.

Opposite Ohtani will be Rockies right-hander Tanner Gordon, who’s 3-5 with a 7.98 ERA across 38.1 innings this season.

Ohtani is leading off for the Dodgers while Mookie Betts is sitting. Miguel Rojas is starting at shortstop in Betts’ absence in what is likely a day off.

  1. How the heck is Alex Call not in the lineup after going 4 for 5 with a HR and a double? Conforto can afford to sit another game and and Buddy Kennedy shouldn’t be in the majors

  2. Just wrapped up yet another humiliating loss to the worst team in MLB, by something like 9 games to the team with the next worst record. Absolutely pathetic that this team has no sense of urgency, and a 1 game lead in the NL West after tonight’s loss and what looks like another San Diego win over the Giants. I get it, they had beaten the Rockies 10 games in a row. Now they could just as easily lose 3 out of 4 to them. WTF is wrong with this team? WTF is wrong with Roberts? WTH is wrong with Friedman?

Oh, and the article references Ohtani’s last outing as his worst. Well, that can be replaced by tonight’s effort, if you can call it that. 9 hits, 5 ERs, and 3 Ks in 4.0 innings. Wow, that is special.

This team is the epitome of FAFO in the MLB. 21 – 23 since the midpoint when they were 50-31. And why in the hell is Kennedy even on this team. He’s the worst batter I’ve ever seen, and they keep putting him on the field. He should have NEVER been signed. He makes Conforto look like an MVP candidate. Wake TF up LAD before it’s too late!

  3. Mike H says what we all are feeling. I have no idea what it is, but there is “something going on” this season with the Dodgers. All season long they have made some incredibly questionable decisions. I can not help but wonder why they continually do the things they do. Is there some political situation in the Dodger organization? Is there in-fighting in management? Historically this team has been one of the most well run organizations in sports. Could they possibly be that dum? ….. yeah, that was intentional ….

  4. I guess there are several frustrating factors. Being held to 3 runs at Coors field, a park that yields a 33% higher earned runs per game than the average MLB park, by a team that is 30th in ALL of these stats: runs allowed, opponents’ batting average, opponents’ OPS average, total bases allowed, and errors. Yet the LAD offense with Roberts apparently unable to decide on a line up by late August, scores 3 runs twice?? Twice??!! Imagine losing a series to the worst team in baseball. How our boys react tonight will be a sign. If they cave AGAIN, like they have in getting swept 5 times already this season, including 3 times at home, that doesn’t bode well. They needed 3 of 4. If they don’t figure out a way to get a split, they’re done. If you can’t beat the worst team in baseball, every team you face knows your beatable.

And I stand corrected. They are actually 21 – 24 since the midpoint. So, that’s a .467 winning percentage. Keep that up and it translates to 16 more wins in their remaining 35 games if they don’t snap out of it. That would be 88 wins and likely out of the playoffs. Wake up LAD!! Thus far, your title defense is a pathetic whimper. It’s more than just sweeping the Padres, a very anemic road team this year, last weekend at Dodgers Stadium. We went 14-5 against them in 2022, finished 22 games in front of them, only to be swept in the ALDS by them. So, enjoy being 8 -2 vs them so far this season, but we need more than that.

And finally, I’m from CA but now on the east coast. Another frustration is that last month I attended the Orioles game where they beat this Rockies team 18-0. Will be attending at least 2 games in LAD’s 3 game set at Baltimore in September, including 9/06, which will commemorate the 30th anniversary of Cal Ripken Jr. becoming the Ironman with his 2131st consecutive game.
