Dodgers Lose Key Coach as Marlins Hire Him to Be Next Manager

The Miami Marlins are hiring Los Angeles Dodgers first base coach Clayton McCullough as their new manager, per ESPN’s Alden González.

McCullough, 44, spent the last four seasons in Los Angeles and will succeed Skip Schumaker in his new managerial role with the Marlins. Schumaker stepped down in September as the Marlins concluded a lowly 62-100 season.

The Dodgers first base coach was linked to the opening spot in Miami for several weeks. McCullough knows Marlins assistant general manager Gabe Kapler from their time in the Dodgers’ player development department.

In 2021, McCullough took over as the Los Angeles first base coach for George Lombard. In 2019, McCullough served as the Dodgers’ field coordinator when there was speculation that he would be the next manager for the San Francisco Giants. However, Kapler landed the role.
