Dodgers Lose to Guardians as Tanner Scott, Alex Vesia Meltdown in Brutal 8th Inning

The Los Angeles Dodgers lost, 7-4, to the Cleveland Guardians on Wednesday in a game they should have won.

The Dodgers, who led 4-2 entering the bottom of the eighth inning, allowed five runs — four of them charged to Tanner Scott — in a brutal loss to end their road trip.

Scott entered the game in the bottom of the seventh inning with a runner on and two outs. He got the strikeout, and then came back out for the eighth.

He gave up back-to-back singles to open the inning — the latter of which was ruled a single after third baseman Max Muncy stumbled trying to field the ball — and then a walk to load the bases. After getting a strikeout, Scott gave up a two-run single that found a hole and got into left field, tying the game at four apiece.

Scott was then relieved by Alex Vesia, who served up a three-run home run to Angel Martinez, the first batter he faced.

The Guardians took a 7-4 lead that they wouldn’t relinquish.

The Dodgers spoiled what would have been Clayton Kershaw’s first win of the season, as he pitched five innings, allowing just one run.

The Guardians struck first with an RBI single in the first inning. The Dodgers then scored the next four runs — two in the fourth, one in the sixth and one in the seventh — before the bullpen blew it in the eighth.

  1. His ERA may be a very mediocre 4.62 for the season, but for his last 7 appearances, it’s 12.15. That’s not mediocre by any standard. Welcome to the next failed Craig Kimbrel experiment.

  2. It’s getting harder to support this team. So many parties not doing their jobs, from the front office in their fetish for reclamation projects and rejects, to a manager who loves to blame everyone else but himself, all the way down to the pitchers themselves who just flat out aren’t doing their jobs. And what’s with all the injuries?! Makes you wonder about this generation. Bring back the days of Perranoski, Marshall and, yes, even Jansen.
