The Los Angeles Dodgers made their first trade of the offseason Sunday evening, acquiring 22-year-old right-handed pitcher Tyler Gough from the Seattle Mariners in exchange for right-handed pitcher Robinson Ortiz.
The Mariners drafted Gough in the ninth round of the 2022 MLB Draft out of high school, and he has been in Single-A since his debut in 2023. He made 10 appearances and nine starts that season — spending a few months on the injured list — and kept a 5.70 ERA through 30 innings pitched.

Gough played far better in 2024, making 23 starts and posting a 4.33 ERA through 95.2 innings pitched. He struck out 99 batters that season, posting a career-low WHIP of 1.41. Gough did not pitch in 2025, spending the full season on the injured list.
Ortiz signed with the Dodgers as an international free agent in 2017, and spent his entire professional career in the Dodgers organization. He spent his time playing rookie ball in the Dominican Summer League and Arizona League in 2017 and 2018 before making a move to Single-A in 2019.
After not pitching in 2020, Ortiz made four solid appearances in 2021, posting a 0.77 ERA through 11 innings. He didn’t appear in a minor league game in 2022 or 2023, and made his return to Single-A in 2024, making six appearances and keeping a 0.82 ERA.

Ortiz began 2025 in High-A, moving up to Double-A after just 18 appearances. He made 15 more appearances with Double-A, posting a 1.69 ERA through 21.1 innings, and moved up to Triple-A on Aug. 12.
After a strong 15 games with Oklahoma City this season where he kept a 2.76 ERA, the Dodgers added Ortiz to the 40-man roster at the beginning of the month.
With their team currently stacked with talent, this move provides the Dodgers with a younger arm to develop in the minors as they look to establish a winning culture which stretches far beyond the current team.
