Dodgers: Manny Machado Deal Currently on Hold

On Tuesday night, it was reported that the Dodgers would be acquiring all-star shortstop Manny Machado from the Baltimore Orioles. In the deal, the Dodgers would be sending outfielder Yusniel Diaz, right-handed pitcher Dustin May, and infielder Errol Robinson, LA’s No. 4, No. 10, and No. 18 rated prospects, respectively. Although last night the deal wasn’t confirmed, it appeared as if it was all but a done deal. It appears that this done deal may have taken a halt, for now.

It was reported earlier the trade was on hold due to a medical concern.

It’s well-known that the Orioles are cautious when it comes to physicals, so this doesn’t come as shocking news. The good news for the Dodgers, is that it doesn’t appear to be surrounding Diaz.

Reports have surfaced saying other prospects will be involved in the trade as well. If it indeed is one of the lesser known prospects with the medical concern, there’s no reason for the Orioles to put this trade on halt. Diaz is who the Orioles are coveting most, so if he’s healthy, the trade should be good to go.

Analysis

Obviously, this news isn’t ideal, but the Dodgers shouldn’t be too worried. When you’re dealing away a player of Machado’s caliber, you want to be cautious, and make sure every player you’re getting in return is fully healthy. Hopefully this issue can resolve quickly, and we can see Manny Machado suited up and in the starting lineup on Friday in Milwaukee.
