Dodgers: Manny Machado’s Shocking Display of Effort Leaves LA Fans in Disbelief

Many players have donned the Dodger blue across the franchise’s rich history. So many of those players wore that uniform with pride and solidified themselves as not only Dodger greats but baseball greats. However, with many great players comes some talented players that still left a bad taste in Dodgers fans mouths.

One of those players in recent memory is San Diego Padres third baseman Manny Machado. Machado was acquired by the Dodgers back in 2018 during the trade deadline. In what was a much-needed move due to then shortstop Corey Seager being out for the year due to a UCL sprain in his right elbow.

However, the then 26-year-old’s time in LA wasn’t exactly a dream and the video below shows a little glimpse of why that was.

The now 30-year-old is an All-Star and MVP candidate with great power at the plate and has an amazing defensive arm, but his one knock is that he’s not exactly a big believer in using a little elbow grease when needed.

In the half season he was in LA, that was the one problem he endured with fans as he didn’t hustle when it was needed. Much of that criticism came during the 2018 NLCS when in Game 2 of that series, he failed to run out a grounder and in Game 3 he made two questionable slides. Reporter Ken Rosenthal talked to Machado about the subject in 2018 and he had this to say.

“Obviously I’m not going to change, I’m not the type of player that’s going to be ‘Johnny Hustle,’ and run down the line and slide to first base and … you know, whatever can happen. That’s just not my personality, that’s not my cup of tea, that’s not who I am.”

Clearly, Machado has not changed and is doing what works for him. Los Angeles is doing just fine without Manny, but every single time the Dodger faithful sees Machado, the fans let him hear it with a roar of boos.
