Dodgers: Matt Beaty Key in Big Offensive Performance

The Dodgers had Walker Buehler on the mound tonight, and he did not disappoint. Buehler had an outstanding performance in San Diego. He posted a stat line of: 6 IP, 4 H, 2 BB, 11K. The offense found its rhythm tonight as well, with Matt Beaty leading the way going 3-for-4 with an RBI and 2 runs scored. Moreover, Kiké Hernandez, Corey Seager, and Will Smith all recorded multiple RBI’s in the 9-0 Los Angeles victory.

LA pitching — including catcher Russell Martin — allowed just 5 H, and shutout the Padres. The magic number for the Dodgers is clinch playoff berth is 10.

Following the win, Matt Beaty spoke to SportsNet LA anchor Alanna Rizzo about his 3 hit night.

Hitting’s contagious, for the most part we did a pretty good job today, and some of the balls found holes for us.

We pay attention to runners in scoring position, and we were able to get the job done.

Beaty on if the Dodgers have to get the small ball going in a pitcher’s park:

For me, personally, I don’t try to think about that…there were some balls hit today, that you thought were going to leave the yard, that didn’t, and that’s just the ballpark that you play in…you just got to think about getting the job done and having a good at-bat.

Fortunately, Beaty knows about putting together good at-bats. In a season where so many rookies have stepped up with big moments, Hit Man has been a steadying presence. In 72 games, Beaty’s 3 hits puts his season average at .299. He’s added 7 home runs, 17 doubles, and 38 RBI while being one of the Dodgers’ most dangerous bats off the bench.

  1. I agree with Robin, Matt Beaty has put together a very good year. Solid with bat & defense, hopefully he will make the playoff roster. We like him more than some of the veterans. Go Dodgers !

  2. As far as last night’s game, remember they faced a Padre pitcher on a team not quite on par with the Yankees. It’s great seeing the 9 run performance but if Dodgers are to succeed in the PS they will have to compete against much better teams and much better pitching. Beaty most likely makes the PS roster but he won’t start against the elite LHP this Dodger team is certain to face.

    1. I agree. Fans are getting too excited without realizing the reason the offense is back is because they aren’t facing a better team

      1. Exactly. I mean look at it this way….if Dodgers were to face the Yankees in the WS they will have to get to their starting pitching first because by the time the 6th inning comes, they will have NO chance against that Yankee BP if they are behind by then.

  3. I agree PaulDodgerFan1965 that the Dodgers are playing against the Padres who beat them 4-3, the night before. I was just saying that Beaty be on the playoff roster, not starting, most likely as a pinch-hitter.

  4. Correct Robin and I concur. He could start against RHP but there will be the difference with the Dodgers as compared to those teams they will face in the PS and WS. Those teams most likely won’t be switching up and shuffling their players and lineups around because of deficiencies against LHP

  5. Beaty has contributed since his call up. He needs to be playing more. What were his stats against lefty’s in the minors? He might need more reps against lefty ‘s . He should be on the post season rooster.

    1. He most likely will but for various reasons Dodgers see guys like Beaty and Pederson as platoon players. Not sure what his minor league stats are against them (LHP), but recall Joc did well enough against LHP apparently while in the minors to get the starting CF job for the 2015 season. And we know what took place from there. OH and BTW this will baffle you… Beaty, even after last night’s 3 hit performance is not starting in tonight’s game. It’s what this team does to hot bats at times. And the Dodgers are facing a RHP so IDK…

  6. Howard32, in a small sample size at OKC Beaty was 10 for 23 with 2 HR’s and 2 RBI’s against LHP before coming up here this year. Those were his stats for 2019 in OKC
