Dodgers Matt Kemp Named N.L. Player of the Week

Well, it shouldn’t take much longer for the KeMPV chants to start up at Dodger Stadium again. Matt Kemp’s offensive explosion in the past 7 games has earned him the National League Player of the Week honors. Just look at the numbers he put up between May 28th and June 3rd:

.429 BA, .952 SLG, 6 R, 2 2B, 3 HR, 8 RBI.

It’s Kemp’s 6th time earning POTW honors, the last coming in August 2014 when he was still a Dodger. Last week we made the case for Kemp’s inclusion on the All-Star roster, but the case he’s making for himself should be more than enough to secure the needed votes. Take a look at a timeline of his highlights from the last week:

May 28 vs. Phillies: Kemp sparks an incredible comeback with an RBI double

This game may well prove to be the turning point for the Dodgers season. If so and Kemp keeps up his production, it’s going to be hard to exclude him more award consideration.

May 30 vs. Phillies: Kemp extends a lead with HR #7 on the season

He would bag two more RBI’s in this game, his first 4 RBI game as a Dodger since September 2014.

June 1 vs. Rockies: Kemp knocks homerun #8 deep into left

The sound off the bat on this one was oh so sweet.

June 2 vs. Rockies: Kemp nails Charlie Blackmon at the plate

Defensive liability shmefensive shmiability. Seriously though, having Kemp in the outfield is starting to make us less nervous.

June 2 vs. Rockies: Kemp smashes a two-run dinger, his 9th

Matt Kemp is the first Dodger to be honored as N.L. Player of the Week this season, let’s hope he’s not the last.

Why Dodgers Fans Love: Matt Kemp

Jacob Walters

Jacob Walters is a Los Angeles native and has been a Dodgers fan his entire life. He hopes to one day see the Dodgers release a bobblehead of Chan Ho Park scissor kicking Tim Belcher.
