Dodgers’ Max Muncy Opens Up on Nolan Arenado Trade Rumors

The future of Los Angeles Dodgers third baseman Max Muncy has been widely discussed for the last couple months, but rumblings have since increased amid his offensive slump.

Muncy is hitting .188 with one home run, eight runs batted in, and an OPS of .600. It’s no secret that the Dodgers All-Star is struggling, but whether the Dodgers plan on finding a replacement for Muncy remains a mystery.

The 34-year-old discussed the ongoing trade rumors linking the Dodgers to 10-time Gold Glove Nolan Arenado, who has openly expressed his desire to join L.A.

“It’s never easy, but it’s baseball,” Muncy said to The Athletic’s Fabian Ardaya. “It’s a business. Especially when you’re on a team like this where they expect to win the World Series. You also understand if there’s any chance that they can improve they’re probably going to take that chance.

“But at the same time, that’s also where I’ve built my relationship with Doc and the front office and they understand where I’m at that, if there’s a chance to improve this team, they can definitely do it. I’m willing to accept any role in that. They know that.”

Muncy remains hopeful that he will turn a corner as the season progresses.

“They gave me the confidence that they had in me, and unfortunately I haven’t entirely returned it yet this year, but I still know that I’m a very good player and I can definitely get back to my standards. If I’m able to just relax and go out there and play, by the end of the year, you may not even know what my first month was,” he said.

The Dodgers front office will likely not sit idly by as the trade deadline approaches, but it remains unclear where the team will look to improve. Muncy has become such an integral part of this team, both on and off the field.

    1. Okay, understand the frustration, but a bit harsh. Ohtani was mid .200s a few weeks ago and has raised it to nearly .300 now. Can’t get rid of that many players and some will always be low – like Barnes. I mean, nice to think you can do better (you can’t), but if teams heeded your advice, MLB would currently lose players such as Mike Trout (.179), Luis Robert Jr (.192), Anthony Santander (.196) and Christian Yelich (.197). Take a couple of deep breaths please.

Message to Muncy: “Field and bat better and these discussions go away.”

      1. Don’t worry Max…REAL DODGER FANS know you can turn it around. Plus, unless St Louis picks up a huger chunk of Arenado’s salary, the Dodgers are not trading for Nolan Arenado. They would be better served by bringing up Alex Freeland and giving him a go. He’s definitely earning it in the minors, batting over .300….

  1. Well Muncy came thru tonight in the 9th vs Arizona so let’s hope he continues that kind of performance.

  2. It seems to happen every year. Muncy will struggle along at a .179 (or there abouts) batting average for the entire season then get three hits in a week and everyone is on Max’s bandwagon. I don’t know how but the Dodgers need to find a third baseman who is not necessarily a future HOFer but can be at least be adequate. And while I’m on my rant, after watching that GREAT game Friday night, it dawned on me that the pitching staff, as depleted as it is, can be salvaged. THE DODGERS ONLY HAVE TO SCORE 14 RUNS EVERY GAME !!!!!!!!! PROBLEM SOLVED !!!!!!!!!!!!!

  3. How about Roberts putting a bunt and run and more base stealing by the alledged speeding runners. Also, how about Mookie giving us a hard 90 down to first base on ground balls hit in the hole at SS or up the middle. Just like his baseball running till video that he has shown between innings. He said running hard makes the field to make a good play to throw you out. How about practicing what he preaches????

Also who said Saki was the BEST pitcher in Japan???? Haven’t seen it yet…

  4. Dodgers should trade for Arenado ASAP and send or DFA Outman or Conforto or CT3. Put Betts back in Right Fld. Rojas at SS, Kim or Muncy at 2B and Pages in CF, T Hernandez in LF. Dodgers have a shi- Load of good talent in AAA level. Give them the opp to shine.

    1. I don’t know about all of that, but I agree with some. Muncy should be given a little more time, but not a lot. He’s awful at the plate, and he does not have a good glove. Get Arenado, who wouldn’t need to be in the middle of the lineup in order to be a vast improvement. CT3 does need to go. He’s had years to prove he’s cooked as a MLBer. Kim is an infielder. Quit trying to make him an outfielder at the MLB level.
