Player of the Day – Miguel Urena
The 19-year-old Dominican native was signed last January for $140,000. What intrigued the club was the fact that, as a 17-year-old, he was already over six and a half feet tall. Now 19, he stands 6’8 and weighs 210 pounds.
The righty can touch the mid 90s with his fastball and pitches with a steep downhill plane, as you’d expect. Urena was very raw in his debut, allowing a 7.76 ERA in 12 games with the Dominican Summer League team last year. He’s very much a project, who will take years to develop, but the upside is rare.
