Player of the Day – Julio Urias
Urias was supposed to start last night’s game, but was pushed back to a relief role after it was announced that rehabbing Chris Perez would open the game. That led to Urias entering in the third inning and he showed some wildness early on, walking a pair of batters and hitting another pair.
However, Urias got stronger as the game went on and ended up retiring the last 11 batters he faced. The lefty has made two starts as an 18 year old and he’s struck out a career-high nine batters in each outing. He lowered his ERA to 2.68, which would be tops in the California League if he qualified.
