Player of the Day – Grant Holmes
Sure, it wasn’t as dominant as his last outing, but Holmes pitched better than his stat line. The 18-year-old righty’s first pitch was 96 and that set the tone, as opposing hitters struggled to make contact with his fastball.
When he started mixing in breaking stuff, batters had no chance. Of the nine batters he struck out, eight of them fell to the curve or slider. Holmes’ command was a bit off but he still only gave up one really well hit ball. The future is bright for the right-hander, though he shouldn’t be rushed.
