Dodgers: Mookie Betts Breaks Down Why He Chose to Sign Extension with LA

The trade that brought over Mookie Betts during the offseason was seen as a risky move, seeing as he would be a one-year rental with his contract expiring after the 2020 season. That risk was rather shortlived, however, with Betts signing a massive $365 million deal to essentially finish his career in Los Angeles.

Now that we’ve gotten the chance to see Mookie in Dodger Blue for a full season, albeit a shortened one, we can wholeheartedly say that we are ecstatic to see him for another dozen!

Betts himself has been pretty open about signing with Los Angeles before playing a single regular-season game, but just in case everyone forgot why he committed himself to such a long deal, here he is making it crystal clear.

The chemistry that this group has is undeniable, and Betts has fit right in from the start. His leadership and experience have helped bring this team to the doorstep of a championship and we’ve only seen the beginning of his tenure here in LA.

Regardless of what happens during this World Series, having arguably the best player in baseball chose the Dodgers as his family is already a win. And if he’s able to lead them to a title in year one, it will be one of the greatest seasons in franchise history.

Tune in tonight at 5:00 PM PT to watch Game 1 of the World Series on FOX.

  1. You actually said it! “Arguably the greatest player in baseball”. Yes Mike Trout quietly puts up great numbers every year and plays an effortless centerfield. Mookie puts up great numbers, plays great right or centerfield, runs the bases, makes everyone around him better with a great effervescent attitude and advice. He has intangibles that Trout does not. So yes you could argue he is a better player than Trout.
