Dodgers: Mookie Betts Gives Summer Camp Star Chico an Awesome Gift

Joc Pederson is a man with some great stories to tell! In an exclusive chat with Dodgers Nation this week, Joc gave us a call to chat about his new workout that has him feeling pumped for the 2020 season, even if it is a short one.

His new Tonal exercise equipment has him feeling quick and ready to make some plays all around the outfield for the Dodgers. But notably, there’s one superstar he’s looking up to this summer camp. And no, we’re not talking about Mookie Betts, but he’s definitely involved in this story.

Of course, we’re talking about summer camp stud Francisco “Chico” Herrera. Chico has made some dazzling plays over the last two weeks at Dodger Stadium, and it’s not going unnoticed for Pederson who says that “Chico’s been killing it!”

Understatement for sure. From there, however, Joc shared a cool story involving a cool gift from Mookie to Herrera.

So Mookie has a Jordan deal — and him and Chico wear the same size — so he gave Chico some shoes. They’re Jordan’s, so it’s kinda like the movie with Lil’ Bow Wow… you know, ‘Be Like Mike!’ So it’s ‘be like Mookie,’ so then Mookie crushes a ball over his head and then Chico runs it down, so it was like, ‘hey Mookie, man, you better not give him any more shoes!’

Getting custom Jordans from Mookie Betts has to be an absolute thrill no doubt, but what about a bat and getting Chico in the lineup for a game? The players are on board it seems.

We’ve been pushing for an at-bat for him!

The Chico storyline has undoubtedly been a highlight for fans during what could have been a time of less than exciting intrasquad games. Thankfully for Chico, it came with memories that will last a lifetime… and a new pair of Jordans.

  1. OK, very cute story. And I am absolutely not faulting Mookie here, But from the headline and the build up in the story, I was expecting the gift to be a little more awesome, you know, a fancy watch, a sports car, something really cool. He gave him shoes. He gave him shoes that he gets for free. Let Chico bat!!!!!

    1. I was thinking the same thing! Shoes? That’s pretty cool, but Betts is worth a jillion dollars, and Chico has been a ray of sunshine in all this madness. Give the guy a car! 😉

  2. That’s not an awesome gift!SHAQ while a later bought a brand new ford expedition to the man in charge of the team laundry, when he found out he missed work cause of car troubles.THAT’S AN AWESOME GIFT!NOT IMPRESSED WITH THIS STORY!

MOKIE THE WERE GREAT, BUT HAS TO BE BIGGER AND BETTER. CHICO IS AWSOME AND NEED A BETTER CHANCE, HE IS BETTER THAN SOME THAT ARE ON THE TEAM I THINK D.R. ARE IS AFRAID TO LET HIM HIT.
