Los Angeles Dodgers shortstop Mookie Betts commented on his performances during the World Series following the Dodgers’ Game 5 loss to the Toronto Blue Jays.
Betts got off to a strong start in the postseason, tallying six hits in his first two games and recording four hits in as many games against the Philadelphia Phillies in the NLDS. However, he has struggled since.

Betts has had issues at the plate over the course of the series, recording three hits — all of which have been singles — through 23 at-bats in the Fall Classic. He is also yet to record an RBI, and his only run so far this series came in the Dodgers’ blowout loss in Game 1.
He has struck out five times during the World Series, which is uncharacteristic of the All-Star following a season where he ranked in the top 2 percent of MLB with a 10.3 percent strikeout rate.
“I don’t want to speak on anybody else,” Betts said after Game 5. “But for myself, I’ve just been terrible.”
While Betts is shouldering the blame, the rest of the Dodgers’ lineup isn’t without fault. They scored just three runs across Games 4 and 5, and managed just three hits against rookie starting pitcher Trey Yesavage in Game 5.
Despite their struggles, manager Dave Roberts has faith in his team to turn things around in Toronto, especially Betts.

“Hopefully, the off day, (he can) find a way to get away from it, and then go out there and just kind of focus on one game and be good for one game, go out there and compete,” Roberts said. “But I think you can see, you know, there’s a little anxiousness in there. But it’s not the first time he’s struggled, it’s not the first time he’s faced elimination. And it’s not just Mookie, it’s everyone that’s got to do their part too.”
Betts will look to make an impact in Game 6 of the World Series, which comes Friday at 5:00 p.m. PT.
