Dodgers Nation Poll Results: Reviewing Roberts’ First Half

Every week since May 22, the Dodgers Nation twitter account has released a series of polls to gauge fan approval of the Dodgers’ performance throughout the season. Those polls asked for fans’ opinions on the Dodgers’ offense, the starting rotation, the bullpen, the front office and manager Dave Roberts.

This article will specifically take a look at Roberts’ approval ratings and how they’ve fluctuated this season.

Confidence Restored

When we ran our first series of polls on May 22 the Dodgers owned a record of 21-27. With the season nearing the 2-month mark, fans were understandably uneasy with the Dodgers performance thus far. This was reflected in the poll results. When presented with the question Do you approve of Dave Roberts’ job so far this season? only 40% of fans responded “yes” with 28% responding “no.” The remaining respondents said they were undecided.

Roberts’ approval would only go up from there. With the Dodgers finally breaking out in June, fans’ opinions turned increasingly positive. Take a look at the infographic below to see exactly how poll results have trended from May 22 until now.

As the Dodgers improved their play over the course of this summer, approval of Roberts’ influence increased. There was a bit of a dip at the end of June, but a hot start to July has seen approvals reach their highest point this season.

The table below breaks down the results in their specifics:

Do you approve of Dave Roberts’ job so far this season?
Date Yes No Dodgers’ Record
May 22 40% 28% 21-27
May 29 55% 17% 25-29
June 4 59% 13% 29-30
June 11 68% 10% 33-32
June 18 75% 6% 37-33
June 26 69% 12% 42-36
July 2 64% 13% 45-39
July 9 77% 8% 49-41
July 16 81% 6% 53-43
