Dodgers News: Bobby Miller Wants to Be Someone Roberts Can Count On

This has been a different kind of season for the Dodgers. They have relied upon multiple rookies to help keep them afloat throughout the year and are still counting on some.

One of the biggest contributors to the successes that they have seen is rookie starting pitcher Bobby Miller. Miller broke onto the scene early into his career and has continued to push through any adversity he has seen.

In his latest complete start last Tuesday against the NL Central-leading Milwaukee Brewers, Miller showed just how good he could be. He went six innings, allowing just one run and one hit. Miller also struck out four batters.

Miller has now put together a run of solid starts, not allowing more than three runs over his last eight games leading into his start on Tuesday against Cleveland. He spoke about wanting to be a guy that the team can count on down the stretch.

“If I just command the ball, I think I can be a ‘count -on’ guy,” Miller said. “I’m just trying to prove myself that I can be a ‘count-on’ guy and the guy I want to be. So just go out there and compete every day, keep the head down, keep the tunnel vision and stay commanding the baseball.”

Against the Brewers, Miller retired 18 consecutive batters. It was quite an impressive showing from the rookie against a solid team. Manager Dave Roberts knows that it doesn’t matter who they are playing against, however, because winning games in the major leagues can be tough.

“I know it’s hard to win a Major League baseball game,” said Dodgers manager Dave Roberts. “Regardless of opponent, regardless of who we’re playing against, we just have to play good baseball.”

If his recent stretch of games has shown anything, it’s that the kid is special. And at this point, Miller looks like he will be a part of the postseason roster.

Miller has proven himself and more this season. He has shown that he belongs at the highest level and has continued to get better each game.

That is all the team can ask for, and he has taken advantage of his opportunity. Miller Time in LA is here to stay.
