Dodgers News: Cleveland President, Manager Apologized to Dave Roberts After Weird Series

The Dodgers just finished a very weird series in Cleveland that saw them play three games, including one that started on Wednesday and ended on Thursday after multiple rain delays.

Wednesday’s game got suspended after two innings, despite there being no rain falling from the sky at the time of the delay.

Then, on Thursday, when the team was finishing that game before playing the second day game ahead of their trip to Boston, they were again delayed in the ninth inning, despite no rain falling from the sky for over 20 minutes.

It was a very frustrating series for both teams, as Cleveland’s grounds crew seemed to take a few too many extra precautions in trying to avoid the rain.

After the series, Cleveland’s president and manager apologized to Dodgers manager Dave Roberts for the way in which the team’s grounds crew handled the rain.

“Chris (Antonetti) came over and he … apologized for the way it was handled. No one wins in that situation. They lost a starter too (because of Wednesday’s suspension). You could see they were kind of hamstrung with their pitching today. … But I really appreciate Chris coming over and Tito (Guardians manager Terry Francona) reached out too.”

It’s a nice gesture for them to go over and apologize to Roberts for the difficult position they put LA in.

The Dodgers had to travel to Boston after the game to get set for what will likely be an emotional series at Fenway Park with tons of reunions, and they were forced to head out significantly later than initially planned.

Fortunately, the Dodgers were still able to take both games of the doubleheader, and can now move on as they’re in Boston for a series sure to bring out emotions for everyone involved.

  1. Unfortunately I don’t have Apple TV and I was unable to watch Friday nights game in Boston. As for the Cleveland grounds crew, what a joke let’s hope we don’t have to go back there for a few years. It felt deliberate to me… shady!!
