Dodgers News: Cody Bellinger Has Made Subtle Changes That Have Gone a Long Way

It’s about time for the Dodgers to make their deep postseason run with Cody Bellinger waiting to makes his name known once again in October. Getting to this point has been anything but easy for the outfielder who suffered a cold streak of eight games in a row without a hit in early September.

Now Bellinger has slowly turned his season around and has recorded eight hits in the past 10 games. With such talent down the Dodgers roster, any chance Bellinger can help only boosts an already frightening team no one wants to face in the postseason.

Dave Roberts, who has been shaky about his patience towards Bellinger, has taken note of the strides Bellinger has made. Roberts is aware of the work that still needs to be done in order for a solidified postseason role but revealed his hopefulness when talking to the media after the game Sunday.

“He’s a lot more controlled with his body. And when you’re talking about controlling the lower half of the body then the head stays more still. He’s controlling the strike zone really well. And he’s taking much better swings and having great at-bats.”

With question marks still looming within the Dodgers pitching unit, having a more solidified batting order could help transfer focus and attention to a more needed position. Bellinger is not quite where he needs to be yet for the Dodgers to shift focus, but the positive trend and hope from Roberts is a welcome sign for any Dodgers fans to see.

  1. Bellinger has been playing MUCH better lately. He is making contact . He is hitting the ball hard. He is also outstanding on defense. Lets pray that he has finally figured it out. I am comfortable with him in the starting lineup. If he relapses and starts striking out and has a poor playoff run, its possible he will no longer be a dodger in 2023.

  2. Since Pederson and Pollack left, the Dodgers have been weak in the outfield. I have far more hope that Taylor will find his groove, than Bellinger. Trayce Thompson should get postseason starts as well.

    1. Thompson has been outstanding he leads the club in OBP and OPS. And he is a Plus Defender. How fortunate they signed him for basically nothing in compensation. Hoping they re-sign him for a couple of years and a plus defender is always needed.

      1. Thompson woke up one day, morphed into Dave Winfield. Dodgers are truly amazing at finding scrubs and turning them into top performers. On the other hand, 3 years is too long to wait for 27 year old 6 year vet Bellinger to find his swing. From what it looks to me, Outman’s floor is Bellingers normal, with a lot of upside. Re-sign Thompson, and with Taylor, plenty of back up to feel comfortable moving on from Belli starting next season.

  3. It’s always been about keeping his head on a pivot and not dropping it down. Problem solved, release the Kraken!
