Dodgers News: Corey Seager Activated from IL; Matt Beaty Optioned

We have been severely missing Mr. Steal Your Girl. He’s back, folks! Today the Dodgers officially activated shortstop Corey Seager from the 10-day Injured List and optioned infielder/outfielder Matt Beaty to triple-A Oklahoma City.

Seager has been out since June 11 with a hamstring strain. He recently completed a brief rehab assignment with single-A Rancho Cucamonga where he went 2-6 with an RBI in 3 games.

Corey Has Returned, Who Went Back?

“Beaty Beaty Bom Bom” as I’ve coined (yes I want all the credit) was optioned to Triple-A Oklahoma City to make room for Corey Seager. Matt Beaty played a little first base, he played some outfield, and hit the ball pretty well going 30-108 (.278) with 2 home runs and 17 RBI. Matt also gave us some clutch moments we shall not soon forget.

Impact Player

After the All-Star break, it’s often discussed that everyone’s favorite team should make a move for an “impact player.” The Dodgers didn’t have to trade a single prospect or veteran–they just activated one from the IL.

Seager was in the midst of a hot streak when he hit the DL, having hit .382 with 10 doubles and 4 home runs in his previous 20 games.

He hits, he plays defense. More than anything, his presence in the lineup makes everyone around him better, and get better pitches to hit. Corey Seager is the very definition of “impact player.”

One Comment

  1. Agree entirely. Corey has shown a 6+ WAR over each of his full seasons. Need him to stay healthy! And like you say in the artcle, it gets to the point where it is hard to pitch to ANYONE among the top SIX or SEVEN against righties.
