Dodgers News: Dave Roberts Addresses Trea Turner, Shortstop Situation
Trea Turner is looking more like a former Dodgers shortstop as each day passes by. After a career year for the All-Star, Turner now explores the open market and expects to make top dollar this off-season, and rightfully so.
Turner is coming off his first Silver Slugger award of his career and appeared in 160 games batting a .298 average to go along with his 194 hits, 101 runs and 100 RBI’s. Without Turner, the Dodgers would not have set the franchise record in wins.
With Turner likely to leave, there were reports of Gavin Lux possibly taking the shortstop position if the Dodgers don’t find a replacement in free agency. A move Dave Roberts is open to making.
“If it doesn’t work with Trea, we have one of our homegrown guys in Gavin Lux who we’re probably looking at to fill in at short.”
Of course, Roberts would love to bring Turner back.
“I loved having Trea with us”
Dave Roberts on who will play shortstop next year for the Dodgers on the Starkville Pod:
"If it doesn't work with Trea, we have one of our homegrown guys in Gavin Lux who we're probably looking at to fill in at short."
Also said, "I loved having Trea with us".

It’s safe to assume the entire Dodgers organization would love to bring Turner back, but with Roberts’s comments, it also provides fans the insight that the team is prepared to move on from Turner. It may give a slight indication that the team is prepared to check other options to replace the shortstop. The manager mentioned payroll in 2023 being front of mind for the front office.
They may also have given fans a glimpse of trusting Lux to fill the void and will look to spend more money on a dominant pitcher and centerfield help.
