Dodgers News: Dave Roberts Bullish on LA’s Projected Opening Day Roster

The Dodgers Opening Day roster is pretty much set. We know which 13 position players are going to make up the roster, as it was finalized on Thursday with the announcement that James Outman had made the team.

The full position player roster will look as follows:

Catchers: Will Smith, Austin Barnes

Infielders: Freddie Freeman, Miguel Vargas, Miguel Rojas, Max Muncy

Outfielders: Mookie Betts, James Outman, Chris Taylor, David Peralta, Jason Heyward, Trayce Thompson

Designed Hitter: J.D. Martinez

While the team clearly lost talent in the form of Trea Turner and Justin Turner, they still have a chance to do some damage in the National League. And Dodgers manager Dave Roberts told the media that he feels great about this group, per Juan Toribio of MLB.com.

“I love this group,” Roberts said. “I think that we’re equipped versus right, versus left. … I love the athletic ability. I love the veterans and the mix of youth. All that put together, I think we nailed it. Now we just have to go out and play.”

The biggest question mark on this roster is definitely the outfield, as outside of Mookie Betts, there’s a lot of unknowns. All these players have the potential to put in a really good season, however, they also could all struggle.

The biggest thing the Dodgers need is a bounce back season from Max Muncy, and continued dominance from Will Smith and J.D. Martinez. If the top five in the lineup can all do damage, the Dodgers will just need average seasons from the rest of their lineup.
