Dodgers News: Dave Roberts ‘Can’t Say Enough’ About Impressive Rookie Bobby Miller

Despite the Dodgers dropping two of three games to the New York Yankees this weekend, there were a few positives that came from the series. Namely, rookie pitcher Bobby Miller continuing to shine, showing that he truly belongs at the Major League level.

Miller was incredible against the Yankees, throwing six shutout innings and striking out seven. His control and ability to limit the New York lineup was thoroughly impressive and got the attention of many around the game, including Yankees manager Aaron Boone.

Since coming up to the big leagues, Miller has calmed the minds of the Dodgers front office and proved that he is a true building block for the franchise. Manager Dave Roberts has praised the young pitcher since his arrival, and with all the injuries that the Dodgers starting rotation has faced so far this season, Miller has been a savior.

“Man, he’s really impressed,” Roberts said. “I can’t say enough about what Bobby’s done for us. I think he is of the mind that every start is an audition and continue to stay hungry and go out there and compete and let things take care of themselves.”

Miller has now faced multiple lineups that are deemed some of the best around the sport, including the Yankees and Atlanta Braves. He has passed the test with flying colors and has helped solidify the rotation for now. He plays more like a veteran rather than a rookie and his composure has helped him get accustomed to life at the professional level.

“It’s a pleasant surprise,” Roberts said when asked how Miller has carried himself as a big leaguer. “Sometimes when you get here, the focus heightens or narrows even more. And I think so far with Bobby, that’s what we’ve seen.”

Miller has a 1.03 ERA with 16 strikeouts over his first three career starts and is scheduled to make his next start against the Phillies in Philadelphia. He is ready for primetime. It’s Miller Time in Los Angeles.

  1. Roberts didn’t learn anything from his Tyler Anderson screwup. He pulled a young pitcher, Miller, who was throwing a great game. and handed it to the bullpen who gave the game away. I am starting to join the unhappy crowd who wants Roberts fired. Too many screwups!!!
