Dodgers News: Dave Roberts Thinks LA is Playing Their Best Baseball

If you only watched the first inning on Sunday afternoon, it would have been a safe bet to assume the Dodgers had lost the game. The Cubs came out and put up 5 runs on Julio Urias quickly, adding on an additional 3 runs in the third inning. But the way this team has played lately, you can never really count them out of any game.

The Dodgers countered with 3 runs of their own in the first inning. They also countered with 6 of their own in the third inning to give them the 1-run lead. They never gave up that lead and ultimately swept the 4-game series against Chicago, despite all odds being stacked against them on Sunday.

But that’s just how things have gone for the Dodgers lately. Even with injuries piling up and starters being unavailable at times, this lineup continues to produce at the highest level. After the win, Dave Roberts recognized that this might be the best they’ve played as a unit all season.

“This homestand, it’s the best baseball we’ve played. This is Dodger baseball.”

They have won 11 of their last 12 games and have taken a commanding lead over the Padres in the NL West. Even with guys like Chris Taylor, Edwin Rios, and Walker Buehler out for an extended period of time, the Dodgers are finding way to get things done.

This week, the Dodgers face a bit of a challenge with a 3-game series against the Padres. But they’ll have a nice soft landing spot heading into the All-Star break facing off against the Angels over the weekend. When they return, it’s right back into the thick of things with a series against the Giants at home.
