Dodgers News: Dave Roberts Trying to Let Joey Gallo Figure it Out

When one batter seems to find their groove, another searches for it. After winning four games in a row, the Dodgers have now lost back-to-back games to the Rockies with the line shining down on Joey Gallo for his recent cold streak.

Similar to Cody Bellinger’s struggles just over a month ago, Gallo has now gone six games in a row without recording a single hit (nine at-bats). Only difference now is the postseason begins this Friday giving Gallo just two more regular season games to give Dave Roberts enough trust to fully utilize him.

It seems likely Gallo will still get as many opportunities as possible to show what he is capable of as Roberts spoke to the media during the pregame scrum Monday.

“Obviously, Joey’s scuffling a little bit. I’m trying to give him as many opportunities to take at-bats in a big league game and see how he finishes up. So, just go out there and keep competing.”

Roberts would like to see a better all-around approach from Gallo moving forward.

“I think it’s all of the above. You know, you never want to tell a guy ‘don’t strike out.’ You just want to continue to encourage him to take good at-bats… we already know there’s gonna be swing and miss in there, so for me it’s just continue to encourage him to go out and compete and to try and take good at-bats.”

Luckily for Gallo, Roberts has shown patience with his team that have allowed them to prove they are worth of a postseason roster. It would be hard to imagine Roberts not treating Gallo with the same respect.

  1. Useless. Bring up James Outland, he can do better, and will get the extra post season experience. Gallo cannot put the ball in play.

    1. I agree, and even though Rios isn’t an outfielder, when it comes to hitting,I’ll take him over our .200 club,Belli,Muncy,Taylor and Gallo.
