Dodgers News: Edwin Rios Starts Rehab Assignment

The rest of the National League better watch out, because the Dodgers are getting healthy, and fast. Even with the crazy number of injuries they endured in the first half of the season, they’re still dominating in the National League West. They start the series against Colorado with an 11.5-game lead over the Padres.

But other than the list of pitchers working their way back, there is also Edwin Rios. The lefty slugger suffered a hamstring string in his right leg and has not played a game since June 2nd. The Dodgers moved him to the 60-day injured list to let him heal up.

But tonight, Rios will be in the lineup for the Oklahoma Coty Dodgers. He gets the start at third base and could be in OKC for a while, according to Dave Roberts. Doc added on Thursday that he wasn’t sure how long he would need to rehab for.

At the time of his injury, Rios was picking things up with the bat. He posted a .892 OPS in the month of May and slugged 6 homeruns in relatively low playing time. He can help fill in at third base when needed, and he hits for power from the bench. The Dodgers would really like to have that power threat back on the roster as we head towards October.

That’s not the only bat they were looking into. The Dodgers are looking into guys like J.D Martinez to see if there is a potential match with the Red Sox. Getting someone with his power into this lineup would be ridiculous, even if he doesn’t really play the outfield much anymore.
