Dodgers News: Fernando Rodney And Diamondbacks Too Confident?

If the NLDS took place this week, then the Arizona Diamondbacks would be advancing to the NLCS.

However, the perceptions that flourished throughout Chase Field are FAR from reality.

Arizona’s Fernando Rodney was feeling great during the series sweep against the Dodgers, and claimed that he wants to face Major League Baseball’s best team in October. The veteran also added another bold statement about LA feeling “worried,” despite awareness of the magnitude it might send to his opposing rivals’ clubhouse.

“I don’t think they want to; because we’ve got Grienke. We’ve got Ray. We’ve got a good staff. We can compete right now. Corbin’s throwing the ball well. And the bullpen. We’re here all season long. We’ll try to do the best we can.”

The Diamondbacks outscored the Dodgers 21-11 in the series, but Dave Roberts is still experimenting with combinations in the infield and outfield. The third game was a blowout but the team still feels good about the current versatility and options in regard to substitutions.

On top of this, the Diamondbacks did not face Clayton Kershaw, Yu Darvish, Alex Wood, or a starting lineup with both Corey Seager and Cody Bellinger!

Rich Hill needed to go out and throw after a devastating loss in Pittsburgh when he gave up a miraculous effort at a no-hitter. Maeda and Ryu need to keep competing hard for postseason playing time.

It’s been a rough 5 game skid, but there’s no need to panic Dodgers Nation. We’re not done with Rodney and the Diamondbacks yet…

He ironically hit a batter, threw 2 wild pitches and allowed a run in the ninth of the first game of the series before barely tallying the save right before those previous statements. He’s the same closer that gave up a 4-1 lead in the ninth inning at Dodger Stadium on July 6th to complete a sweep.

The final series against Arizona will be in LA next week. The Dodgers will definitely be ready to play.

  1. And who is most responsible for the heightened AZ confidence? None other than the Dodgers. This team appears (at least temporarily) to be in complete meltdown mode. Zero offense for at least 2-3 weeks and all top starting pitchers unable to complete four innings. Add to that Roberts once again rearranging the defense just because he can. Because baseball is all about averages and statistics, it’s entirely possible that the “law of averages” is catching up with them. No team can play .700+ ball for three quarters of the season without slumping. The question is “can a team that has lost its scoring ability and whose number two through five starters who have performed beyond their potential but are suddenly drastically underperforming, can they regain their winning ways?” This remains to be seen.

    1. Gee Phil the last time I looked the Dodgers are STILL 15 games ahead of the D’bags. One losing streak all year? Don’t get your panties in an uproar.

      1. D Backs will be lucky to get a wild card spot !!!! And the Dodger’s will resume their winning ways after a brief losing streak. You can put it in the bank. The Dodger’s are still the best team in baseball, have the record to prove it and have the best farm teams in the majors.
