Dodgers News: Franklin Gutierrez Left Saturday’s Game Injured

It hasn’t been long since Franklin Gutierrez came off the disabled list. But Saturday might’ve been a setback.

Gutierrez left the 10-2 win over San Diego with hip tightness. He was injured running the bases in the fifth, and was replaced by Andrew Toles.

Gutierrez returned from the DL Tuesday after a 19-game absence due to a strained hamstring. He had been playing well in the week, scoring a run in every game.

Gutierrez was signed from Seattle last winter to platoon in left field with Andre Ethier and Toles. He had a poor spring training, but Dave Roberts attributed it to his situational use. The team obviously hasn’t seen his full capabilities yet.

If Gutierrez is placed on the disabled list, the team has a variety of options to replace him. Trayce Thompson, a fan favorite who Gutierrez displaced, is a candidate, though he’s struggled in Triple-A for most of the year. When Adrian Gonzalez returns, Cody Bellinger could return to playing left.
