Dodgers News: Freddie Freeman Knows His Hot Streak Will End
What Freddie Freeman is doing right now is pretty insane. The Dodgers’ first baseman continues to hit at a ridiculous pace, and he just added a couple more in the win over the Cardinals last night. But who knows how long this streak will go on.
Freddie’s double in the 4th inning was his 13th hit in his past 15 at-bats. His lineout later in the game eventually put him at 13 for his last 16. That’s an absurd .813 batting average over his last 4 games. The Dodgers ended up winning 3 of those 4 games and taking the series from St Louis in the process.
But even Freddie knows that it’s not going to last forever. When talking about his hitting streak, the Dodgers’ first baseman said he knows that this streak will eventually come to an end. That’s just baseball.
“You don’t talk about it. You just try to ride it as long as you can until it suddenly ends – because this is baseball and it is going to end, unfortunately. It just feels like I’m recognizing strikes and I’m hitting the strikes. I’m not fouling many pitches off. When I swing I hit it and I’m not fouling any good pitches off. You’re just trying to get good pitches to hit and I’ve been hitting them lately.”
But while the streak is here, the Dodgers will happily accept it. Dave Roberts spoke about what he’s seeing out of Freddie after the win as well. He also added in what was clearly some disappointment about Freddie not being selected to the All-Star team.
“The ball looks like a melon up there, he’s just seeing it so well. Right-handed, left-handed. He’s taken some tough pitches. It seems like everything he swings at is center-cut. Just goes to show how he’s swinging the bat, seeing the baseball, using the whole field. Right now he’s as good a player omitted from the All-Star team as I could imagine.”
The Dodgers will take on the Angels for a pair of games in Anaheim starting tonight before heading into the All-Star break. What better way to get Freddie a few more knocks before getting a break?
