Dodgers News: Hanser Alberto Calls Freddie Freeman ‘By Far’ The Best Hitter in Baseball

Freddie Freeman just finished the month of May on another planet.

In 28 games, Freeman slashed .400/.462/.722 with six home runs, 17 doubles, one triple, 26 RBIs and four stolen bases. His OPS was 1.184, and raised his season-long OPS to 1.008.

Freeman had 16 multi-hit games, including two three-hit games and a four-hit game, and is taking a 20-game hitting streak into June. He truly had one of the most dominant hitting months in recent memory, and did it while playing in every single game.

Freeman deserves all the praise that comes his way as one of baseball’s best players, and after his dominant month of May, one of his former teammates made sure to give him some love.

Over on Twitter, former Dodger Hanser Alberto — who was designated for assignment by the Chicago White Sox on Friday — called Freddie Freeman the “best hitter in baseball,” even adding the “by far” at the end of it.

To make a long answer short, I’m with Alberto on this one.

Entering June, Freeman leads the National League with 79 hits and is second in all of baseball with a .346 batting average. That’s coming off a 2022 season in which he led the entire league with 199 hits, and fell just .001 points short of the batting title.

There’s truly no hitter as good as Freddie, someone who uses all sides of the field and prefers to put the ball in play rather than hitting it over the fence.

The Dodgers are hoping Freeman continues his red-hot May into June, and knowing him, he’ll somehow be even better.

The Dodgers franchise record for the longest hitting streak is 31, accomplished by Willie Davis in 1969. With Freeman in Los Angeles for the next four-plus seasons, Davis’ record is very much in jeopardy.
