Dodgers News: JD Martinez named NL Player of the Week Following Monster Homestand
J.D. Martinez is ready for October!
After dealing with a nagging back that kept him out for around three weeks at the end of August and the start of September, the Dodgers’ DH is officially back and picking up where he left off.
The 2023 All-Star has been named the National League Player of the Week after an amazing stretch of games against the Tigers and Giants.
The 36-year-old veteran is making a career resurgence on his one-year deal with the Dodgers after the Boston Red Sox let Martinez walk after a down year.
The veteran lit up the box score tallying stats in nearly every category.
Martinez got a little banged up after the All-Star break dealing with a hamstring injury and then a back injury that saw him spend time on the injured list.
Now back, Martinez and Dodgers manager Dave Roberts know that his injury is something that can flare up any moment, but the two are crossing their fingers and hoping it subsides.
The Dodgers needed Martinez more than ever after Will Smith had a couple of poor weeks at the plate and Martinez filled that void and then some.
During this stretch that awarded Martinez the recognition, the Dodgers went 6-2, coincidentally both games Martinez did not have a hit.
The veteran along with all the other stars in the Dodgers clubhouse are now looking to get ready for October and hit the postseason in stride and that will take getting hot at the plate.
Taking the foot off the gas is not something this Dodgers clubhouse does even though they have secured a postseason spot winning the NL West a little over a week ago.
Martinez, along with Mookie Betts and Freddie Freeman, is ready to make a huge impact for the Dodgers in October and bring a World Series back to LA.
