Dodgers News: Joe Kelly Exits Game 5 With Apparent Injury

The Dodgers did not get off to the best start in Game 5 of the NLCS. Facing elimination against the Braves, they sent out Joe Kelly to open up their bullpen game. Kelly is 1 of many relievers expected to enter the game tonight.

The Braves came out swinging though and Kelly gave up an early 2-run shot to Freddie Freeman. He would later be visited by the Dodgers training staff and was removed from the game. Evan Phillips came into the game to get the final out of the first.

It was later announced that it was bicep tightness that promoted the Dodgers to remove Kelly. TBS had reported earlier that it was a shoulder issue, but the biceps report came out a few minutes after that.

Kelly’s injury obviously makes this game even tougher for the Dodgers and Dave Roberts. The hope was that he would be able to go close to 2 innings and shorten the workload for the rest of the bullpen.

Up until tonight, Kelly had yet to be charged with a run in the playoffs. Freddie’s blast changed that very quickly and put the Dodgers in an early hole.

  1. Hey Dave!

Why would you PH for a pitcher who is doing well, when you could have easily had the P bunt for a sac? Rather than use a PH and waste another guy off the bench?

You really just can’t help yourself can you?

  2. so now Kelly joins Max and Justin out of the playoffs. Hope it stops there for another 6 wins. Magic Number was 12 at the start of the playoffs. Dodgers are half way there at 6!
