Dodgers News: Julio Urias Named a Finalist for the NL Cy Young Award

Dodgers ace Julio Urias has been one of the best pitchers in baseball over the last few seasons, and he’s finally getting the recognition he’s so long deserved. Today, it was announced that Urias was officially named as a finalist for the National League Cy Young Award.

In 2022, the left-hander ranked first in the National League with a 2.16 ERA and second with 17 wins. His 0.96 WHIP tied for third-best in the NL, while his .199 opponent’s batting average ranked stood alone in third.

Urias was the Dodgers’ best and most consistent pitcher in 2022, despite being snubbed from the All-Star Game.

In 2021, El Culichi finished a career-high seventh in Cy Young voting. So this year, he’ll for sure set a new career-best. But he hopes it comes with an award.

Urias is up against Sandy Alcantara of the Marlins and Max Fried of the Braves for the award.

If Urias wins, he’ll become the ninth Dodger in franchise history to win the award. He’ll join 2022 teammate Clayton Kershaw as the only active Dodger to win an award with the team (David Price won the AL Cy Young in 2012 as a member of the Rays).

Congratulations to Julio Urias on being a finalist for the most prestigious pitching award in baseball!
