Dodgers News: Justin Turner ‘on track’ to Return On Tuesday vs Twins

The Dodgers didn’t make a ton of wholesale changes at the MLB trade deadline in large part to the slew of impact players they expect to return before the end of the year. Justin Turner hasn’t been on the injured list for months like Dustin May, Walker Buehler, and Blake Treinen, but he was likely part of the math of the LA front office to play it safe at the deadline.

Turner has not played since July 27th, and has played just two games since July 16th. The right-handed slugger suffered an abdominal injury and after sitting out all those games, wasn’t placed on the injured list until this past Tuesday.

The Athletic’s Fabian Ardaya was one of the first to report that according to Dodgers manager Dave Roberts, Turner is expected to be activated on Tuesday prior to the LA’s game against the Twins at Dodger Stadium.

JT has struggled a bit this year (104 OPS+), but had a resurgent July. Turner posted a 1.030 OPS across 16 games in July. His .546 slugging percentage for the month was the best of his 2022 campaign so far.

Even though he’s had an off year, the Dodgers are at their best in October with Turner in the lineup. Barring a setback, JT should be back in the swing of things this week and has the opportunity to pick up right where he left off.
