Dodgers News: Kiké Hernandez Heading to IL, Lux Not an Option for Promotion

According to manager Dave Roberts, Kiké Hernandez will be placed on the Injured List either tomorrow or Monday. As Jorge Castillo of the Los Angeles Times mentions, Gavin Lux is not an option to replace him on the roster.

Hernandez injured his wrist/hand on a swing a few nights ago.

It will be interesting to see who comes up to take Hernandez’s spot on the roster as the current position player corps is pretty strong at Triple-A Oklahoma City. With Lux not an option, it could end up being Kyle Garlick or someone of that ilk.

What is interesting, though, is that the club is opting to wait until possibly Monday to get a fresh bat up. With the trade deadline looming, there could be implications there.

Hernandez, 27, holds just a 95 wRC+ on the year, but since July 1: 163 wRC+ and .352 batting average.

My name is Daniel Preciado and I am 19 years old. I am a sophomore Sport Analytics major and Cognitive Science and Economics dual minor at Syracuse University. When I am not in New York, I live in Whittier, California --- not too far from Chavez Ravine. I am pretty old-school for being an analytics guy and I will always embrace debate. Also, Chase Utley did absolutely nothing wrong.

  1. At this point, what Dodgers need is middle infield back up for Seager, preferably a RH hitter. And Roberts addressed this issue that Lux projects to be a starting player when he does get here so at the present time it does not make sense for Lux to come up yet and just ride the bench without getting consistent AB’s at this point. Dodgers want him able to play everyday and he can do that at triple A for the time being. My guess is if he were a RH hitter they might re consider.

  2. doesn’t make sense lux is hot and if he can play short he should be able to play 2nd no need to ride the pine.
