Dodgers News: L.A. Claims Dylan Floro; Gutierrez Moves to 60 Day DL

On Friday evening, the Dodgers claimed right handed pitcher Dylan Floro off the waivers from the Chicago Cubs. He was then optioned to Triple-A as there was no room on the 40 man roster.

Dylan Floro has played in 3 games for the Cubs where he got banged up pretty bad. He gave up 7 runs over 9 innings striking out 6. His time in Triple-A for them has not faired much better. However, the Dodgers feel we could have some use for him, so they went ahead and picked him up to give him a shot.

Meanwhile, Franklin Gutierrez has been transferred to the 60-day disabled list. He has been diagnosed with ankylosis spondylitis and doesn’t appear to have any potential of returning this year. Especially being that there isn’t much need for him with the depth the Dodgers have been blessed with. He has batted .232 for the Dodgers this year with one home run and eight RBI’s. He has been sidelined since mid-June with the nagging back.

The Dodgers enjoyed their first Yu Darvish appearance Friday night where he threw 7 scoreless innings. However, I think Yu thoroughly enjoyed a step up in run support that he has not received this year.  The Dodgers’ look to keep it going as the series progresses against the Mets.

  1. This is another way to build the farm system. Draft picks, international signings and claiming players off waivers. True they are some teams throwaway but they were good enough to be on their 40 man roster. Maybe better than a draft pick that starts in rookie ball. This front office is always working the long term goal. Proud to be a Dodger fan!
