Dodgers News: LA Adds RHP Chris Martin to the Active Roster

The Dodgers will look to take the series from the Rockies this afternoon. Following a tough loss on Saturday night, they will send out Tony Gonsolin to the mound to try and take the win in Colorado. He faces off against German Marquez, a guy that has given them fits at times in the past.

But before that, the Dodgers made a roster move. They added Chris Martin to the 26-man roster, replacing Jake Reed. Los Angeles just landed Martin in a trade with the Cubs on Saturday, sending infielder/outfielder Zach McKinstry to Chicago in return.

It’s been an interesting year for Martin. He has posted a 4.31 ERA across 34 games, elevating his strikeout numbers and getting his walks down in 2022. In fact, his walk rate is among the top 1 percent of the league, something that might appeal to the Dodgers.

But even if the peripheral numbers aren’t there for Martin this year, there are some things to love. Opposing hitters are hitting less than .200 against his fastball, something he uses almost 40 percent of the time. Chances are that the Dodgers do something to change up his pitch mix, which they have had success with in acquiring other guys.
