Dodgers News: LA Reportedly Calling Up RHP Kyle Hurt to Bolster Bullpen

The Dodgers made a surprising move on Tuesday, calling up RHP Kyle Hurt from Triple-A, per Jeff Passan of ESPN. Hurt, 25, has been dominant across Double-A and Triple-A this season, sporting a 3.87 ERA with an incredible 145 strikeouts in 88.1 innings pitched.

That strikeout rate leads the minor leagues.

Hurt is going to work out of the bullpen, and the Dodgers will see what they have in the 25-year-old out of USC. If he has a strong couple weeks and shows off his swing-and-miss stuff, he could factor into the postseason bullpen.

Hurt was a fifth-round pick in the 2020 MLB Draft by the Miami Marlins, and was acquired alongside LHP Alex Vesia in 2021 for RHP Dylan Floro.

He’s worked his way up the minor leagues, and is now getting an opportunity at the highest level to see what he can do. He’s the Dodgers’ No. 12 ranked prospect, per MLB Pipeline.

Hurt will join several rookies on the LA staff as the team tries to find any pitchers for the 2023 postseason. We’ll see if Hurt is an answer.

Congrats to Kyle on this call-up!

One Comment

  1. He would likely be a vast improvement over Vesia and Varland. Maybe even teach Stone how to pitch.
